The Colony's lakefront addresses and newer master-planned communities like Tribute and Austin Waters create a unique pool design opportunity in North Texas: the chance to build a pool that references, frames, and interacts with one of DFW's premier lake environments. North Texas Custom Pools specializes in view-oriented pool design that makes the most of every sightline.
The Colony occupies a position unlike any other community in the North Texas pool market. While cities like Frisco and Prosper offer premium lots with premium square footage, The Colony offers something rarer: proximity to Lake Lewisville, one of the largest recreational lakes in the DFW metroplex. For homes in Tribute, Austin Waters, and The Colony's older lakefront sections, the pool isn't just a backyard feature — it's a foreground element in a much larger natural canvas.
Designing pools on Lake Lewisville-adjacent lots requires a different vocabulary than inland suburban builds. Perimeter overflow edges that create visual continuity between the pool surface and the lake horizon. Low-profile coping and decking that doesn't interrupt the sightline. Glass or stainless steel handrails rather than masonry walls that block the view. Strategic placement of outdoor kitchens and pergolas to frame the lake rather than obstruct it. These are design decisions that require experience with view-oriented building, and they're decisions we make on every lakefront project.
Tribute, The Colony's newest and most premium master-planned development adjacent to the lakefront PGA course, brings a different design sensibility: contemporary architecture, premium lot sizes, and a homeowner demographic that expects both the pool and the surrounding outdoor environment to be photographable. Austin Waters, another newer Colony development, sits slightly inland but with parkway access to lake trails and recreational corridors that inform a slightly more relaxed, California-influenced outdoor living aesthetic.
The Colony's older lakefront sections — neighborhoods like The Falls and sections along Hawthorne Drive — carry a more eclectic mix of home styles, from early 1980s ranch homes on generous lots to newer custom builds that replaced them. These lots often have extraordinary lake access but require more creative design to work around existing mature landscaping and utility easements. We've built in these neighborhoods multiple times and understand the planning complexity involved.
"On a Tribute lot with a sightline to Lake Lewisville, the pool needs to disappear into the horizon, not compete with it. The infinity edge, the finish color, the coping height — every detail is in service of that view."
Lakefront design requires specialized experience. Every Colony project receives view corridor analysis as part of our standard design process.
View corridor analysis and 3D site rendering for every Colony lakefront project. We position pools, coping heights, and deck furniture to maximize the lake sightline — not obstruct it.
Careful excavation on lakefront lots that may require coordination with USACE shoreline easements and Lewisville Lake setback requirements. We research every permit requirement before we dig.
Finish colors selected in partnership with the lake horizon. Pebble Tec Caribbean Blue and Caribbean Blue-adjacent finishes are particularly striking on Colony lakefront lots — the pool reads as an extension of the lake.
Low-profile travertine and natural limestone coping options that maintain the view sightline. Glass tile in blue-green tones is popular on Colony lakefront pools for the visual connection to the water beyond.
Full Pentair or Jandy automation with dedicated lighting zones for lakefront ambiance. LED RGB lighting in pools adjacent to the lake creates extraordinary evening visual effects.
Lakefront pergolas, outdoor kitchens, and fire features positioned to face the water. We design entertaining spaces that use the lake as the backdrop, not the fence.
The Ashmores' Tribute lot backs directly to the 18th hole corridor with a distant sight line to Lake Lewisville on the west. We designed a 580 sq ft geometric pool with a full-perimeter overflow edge on the lake-facing wall, creating a seamless visual plane from pool surface to horizon. Pebble Fina Caribbean Blue finish, frameless glass fence on three sides, and a linear spa with dual sheer descent water features defined the backyard edge. A low-profile pergola with retractable shade sail over the seating zone keeps the lake view uninterrupted. The finished project photographs better than almost anything in our portfolio.
Austin Waters' interior lots have generous backyards and a relaxed California-influenced design sensibility that sets them apart from other Colony neighborhoods. The Espinozas wanted something that felt like a coastal resort rather than a North Texas suburban pool. We delivered a 540 sq ft freeform pool with a large baja shelf, a natural rock grotto waterfall, and Pebble Tec Ocean Blue finish. The surrounding travertine deck is generous — nearly 800 sq ft — with a covered outdoor kitchen, gas fire pit seating zone, and string lighting. The whole environment feels intentionally slow-paced, which is exactly what this family wanted after 25-minute commutes to Legacy Drive offices.
